Day 1 WHO'S INFECTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Patient A
Patient A has just learned that her ex-boyfriend was diagnosed
with HIV. Although they often used protection when sexually active, she is concerned that she could have contracted the virus from him.

 Patient B
Patient B is the current boyfriend of Patient A. Although they
are not sexually active, they have engaged in deep kissing. Patient B is concerned for his girlfriend and for himself, and decides to get tested along with her.

 Patient C
Patient C is an EMT who treated a bleeding car accident victim
who was HIV positive. After attending to the accident victim’s injuries, he realized that his glove
was torn and his hand cut.

 Patient D
Patient D just broke up with her boyfriend after learning about
several lies he told her. She worries that he has not been monogamous and decides to be tested for HIV.

 Patient E
Patient E is happily married with young children when he gets a
call from an old college girlfriend who is HIV positive. She does not know when she contracted the virus
and is contacting all her old partners so that they can be tested as well.

 Patient F

 Patient F experimented with drugs during college and used some
intravenous substances. Although he  has been clean and sober for years, he remembers sharing a needle with a friend at a social function and
decides to be tested for HIV.

  2. Your group will recieve a LAB grade today based on your results. Your group will not recieve full credit if results are incorrect due to your lack of skills and attention to detail and protocol, so BE CAREFUL

Day 1
  1. TEST: See last week files for what test will cover
  2. CSI CASE 2 : http://forensics.rice.edu/
  3. MUST CREATE an ACCOUNT FOR CRime Scene, so your log in name appears in upper right corner. No LOGIN name on certificate=NO CREDIT!
  4. Once you complete Case 2, print off certificate WITH your log in name showing in upper right hand corner. You may need to copy screen and paste in WORD to print properly.
  5. DUE Monday in to be graded box 10 minutes after bell rings the day you get back after Spring Break. Worth 50 points (aka half of a test grade. Each day late minus 10 points

Week 6: 2/6-2/10

Day 1:
  1. Work with group members to complete pGLO Lab Report (rubric under week 6 files)
  2. Use the approved websites (under week 6 files) to research for your lab report!
          LAB REPORT DUE AT THE END OF THE PERIOD!!! 

Day 2:
  1. Transformation efficiency activity
  2. Organize your binder and Table of Contents for TEST...see week 7...See binder rules from fall semester if you've forgotten...no rules=no binder on test
  3. Raise your grade by completing one or more of the bonus activities:
          a) Construct a 3D model of a recombinant. Rubric found here:

Final Exam Project Exemptions

Day 1
1.Playing God-Watch minute 25-40. Answer: How did recombinant DNA change the pharmaceutical world? Discuss history and production of insulin.
 2. E.coli Insulin Factory Activity: (notes given on board. if absent get them from a lab member)

Day 2
1. GFP Videos (under Week 4 files): What is GFP? Where is it from? If you were a research scientist, how would you use this technology? be able to list some applications.
2. Prep for pGLO lab. Sign up for lab station. Once task is complete I will sign off for your lab grade today.
3. Start 3D model of recombinant. I will assign you the recombinant.This is due week 6 Day 1. But start it NOW. Rubric found here: http://crescentok.com/staff/jaskew/isr/rubrics/evalmod.htm

3. TEST: Eugenics presentations, 7 questions asked on board about eugenics posters, GATTACA questions (front and back of sheet). Make sure to reference movie to recieve full credit
